ISAAA report validates vital role of Hawaii ag biotech industry
February 27, 2010
HCIA President Adolph Helm said the recently released ISAAA report confirms that the research work being conducted by the seed industry in Hawaii is having a profound impact on agriculture worldwide. “The increased demand for biotech crops is proof that the technology has become a vital tool for farmers in developing countries who struggle with poverty, malnutrition and resource-poor farmlands,” he said.
“As the world’s leading supplier of seed corn, we are contributing to the economic health of our state. But more importantly, we are supplying farmers around the world with the means to grow nutrient-rich food. As the world’s population continues to grow and the demand for food production increases, our efforts in Hawaii to produce biotech crops – especially drought tolerant crops – that yield greater results with less environmental impacts become all the more urgent.”
