Kenneth Kamiya, president of the Hawaii Papaya Industry Association and Hawaii’s preeminent papaya breeder and grower, explains why some papayas don’t have seeds in them and how today’s papayas are able to protect themselves against the devastating ring spot virus, which nearly wiped out the state’s papaya industry in the 1990s.
